Traffic suspended after ship runs aground

Vessel traffic in the Bosphorus was suspended at 06.40 hours local time today (16 January) after a general cargo vessel ran aground near Acarburnu Point.

VTS Istanbul directed tugs and a rescue vessel to the location where the grounding took place. The underwater survey was conducted and salvage operation began. Towing commenced at 12:09 hours local time.

Southbound vessel traffic was scheduled to resume at 17:40 hours local time.
