Measures for Earth Hour (23 March 2024)

21 Mar 2024 / Singapore

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) will support Earth Hour on Saturday 23 March 2023, from 8:30pm to 9:30pm by switching off non-essential lightings in our facilities and MPA’s operated vessels. The navigational lanterns at the lighthouses will remain operational during this period while non-essential lighting will be switched off.

For vessels:
Owners and operators of vessels at anchor in port are encouraged to observe Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights of these vessels while ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea, 1972 (COLREGS) and the applicable Safe Management Systems under the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.

For port terminals:
All non-essential lighting (including façade lights) at PSA Horizon, PPTB3, PSA Alongside and Jurong Port’s Main Administration Building should be turned off on 23 March 2024 from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.

At operational areas in PSA’s and Jurong Port’s terminals, only essential lightings should be maintained and, where possible, dimmed to such extent that allow for safe operations.

For passenger terminals:
Passenger terminals that are not providing ferry and cruise services during Earth Hour should switch off all non-essential lightings from 8.30pm to 9.30pm.
