Anchorage closed to shipping

05 Apr 2024 / Port Kembla, Australia

Port Kembla anchorage was closed to shipping due to severe weather (high swell and strong winds) at 18:00 hours local time yesterday (4 April).

All vessels have been instructed to drift off port at a safe distance 12NM off the coast and monitor VHF radio channels 11 and 16.

The anchorage is expected to remain closed for several days with conditions to deteriorate further.

The port remains open to harbour movements and may face some disruption with pilotage during this period as shipping will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.
