Validity of P&I certificates

01 Dec 2022 / Turkey

Turkey’s Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, General Directorate of Maritime Affairs has advised that the requirement (Circular No. 841) for vessels carrying crude oil and transiting the Turkish Straits to provide an insurance letter from the P&I companies will commence as of 02 December 2022. This requirement includes laden tankers currently waiting for their turn at the Turkish Straits.

The letter issued by the P&I company needs to cover the ship’s details, cargo and voyage details and must be submitted to the VTS center with the Sailing Plan 1 (SP1) report by the respective agent before arrival at the Turkish Straits. If the letter is not submitted to the VTS center on time, the vessel will lose its transit time and cause an additional delay in the transit passage at the Turkish Straits. This includes the tankers that have already arrived at Bosphorus and Dardanelles Straits.
