Proposed ship channel project user fee

24 May 2024 / Houston, United States

The Port of Houston held a meeting last week about the proposed Project 11 User Fee scheduled to be implemented mid-2025 to pay for channel widening.

This fee will be in effect for a period of roughly 30 years until the project is paid for based on a cost of approx. $1.51 billion.

The fee will be assessed to each deep draft vessel (>20 feet) vessel entering the channel with no fee charged for intra-port movements or sailings. The exact fee has not been published at this time but will be based on vessel’s LOA and Beam and they have stated the average cost will be $4,725/vessel.

More details can be found at the project site (https://www.expandthehoustonshipchannel.com/).
