At 0930 hours ACST, Tropical Cyclone Trevor was a slow moving Category 1 Cyclone with sustained winds near the centre of 65km per hour with wind gusts to 95km per hour, located within 30km of 12.9 deg. South, 141.4 deg. East, 60km west southwest of Weipa.
It is forecast to rapidly intensify to a Category 2 cyclone today and further intensify further as it adopts a more general west-southwest movement across the Gulf of Carpentaria today and tomorrow. It is likely to cross the Northern Territory coast during Saturday as a category 4 severe tropical cyclone.
Port of Weipa is now condition red and closed.
Port of Gove is now condition red and closed until at least Monday
Port of Groote Eylandt is being evacuated and the port is closed.
There are currently there are no closures to the Ports of Townsville, Cairns, Cape Flattery and Mourilyan.
