Wind restrictions for cruise vessels over 150m

The Norwegian Coastal Administration (Kystverket) has introduced restrictions for vessels carrying passengers in high‑risk areas during severe weather, to enhance safety where severe weather can significantly challenge emergency and rescue operations.

Passenger vessels longer than 150 metres are prohibited from using certain waters when the forecast wind speed (10-minute mean wind) is 17.2 m/s or more.

Six particularly exposed stretches of coastline are affected:
- Stad
- Hustadvika
- Folda
- Fugløykalven
- Sørøya
- Honningsvåg

A map of the designated zones is available at https://kystinfo.kystverket.no/sjotrafikkforskrift

The restricted areas have also been integrated into the BarentsWatch Wave Forecast service, providing operators with real‑time information to support voyage planning and indicate when restrictions are in effect.
