Waters receding in flood-stricken areas

Waters are receding in most areas of Sri Lanka affected by heavy flooding. Rescue operations are still underway, and there is a push to get the road network, communications networks and other essential infrastructure back online.

There are still areas of the country prone to landslides, and a warning system is still in place.

The Government of Sri Lanka had declared a state of emergency to expedite the reconstruction and the securing of aid from donor countries.

Colombo Port is fully operational again today (2 December) after being compelled to cease operations due to unsafe conditions related to the weather over the weekend. Vessel movement is continuing in order to avoid any congestion.

The ports of Galle, Hambantota and Trincomalee are continuing their operations without hinderance.
