Volume Based Surcharge revision

30 Apr 2024 / Port Kembla, Australia

Tug operator Svitzer Australia has issued a revision of the previously announced adjustment of the Volume Based Surcharge (VBS) at Port Kembla.

Their update of 4 April incorrectly reflected the VBS adjustment based on the previous 12 months towage volumes, stating that the VBS would increase from 11.2% to 17.5%. However, the tug job volume for the 12 months ended 31 March 2024 was 3,135, resulting in an adjustment from 11.2% to 23.8%, effective from 1 June.

The VBS is based on a requirement for 4,472 tug jobs per annum (2012 volumes).
