Vessel restrictions during dredging

With the arrival of Orion marine’s ‘Linda LaQuay’ and the commencement of dredging in the ship channel, the Matagorda Bay Pilots are initiating the following vessel restrictions until further notice:

All vessels with a beam equal to or greater than 82 feet (25 meters) will be restricted to daylight passage around the dredge.

“Daylight passage around dredge” can be defined as enough natural light from the sun to visibly see the dredge and all its associated equipment while transiting in the vicinity of the plant. This can vary due to the time of sunrise and the environmental conditions at the time of the transit. Each individual pilot, on a daily basis, with regards to the aforementioned conditions will determine “daylight passage around dredge”.

These restrictions have been initiated for the safety of all deep-sea vessels transiting the Matagorda Ship Channel and the dredge ‘Linda LaQuay’ performing channel maintenance.
