Use of Visitors Visas for crew changes

31 Mar 2022 / Australia

During the COVID-19 pandemic, crew arriving in Australia to join their ships used Visitor visas to cover the periods of quarantine that they may have needed to undertake. With recent changes to the quarantine requirements by some Australian States and Territories, crew who are fully vaccinated for international travel purposes and who hold an MCV may now be able to return to using a Transit (Subclass 771) visa if they wish to fly to Australia to join their ship.

As travel restrictions are now reducing, Visitor visa applications for MCV holders are no longer being prioritised for processing.

Please check with the relevant state and territory for their entry and quarantine requirements before the crew member travels to Australia, as this can impact the crew member’s visa requirement.
