Updated heavy rainfall alert (16 April)

Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority has issued an updated warning of expected heavy thunderstorms and rainfall until 08.00 hours local time tomorrow (17 April).

Heavy thunderstorms accompanied with strong downdraft winds and expected rainfall of 30-100mm are expected causing flashfloods tonight (16 April) and tomorrow morning over Musandam, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, North Al Batinah and Al Dakhylia, Muscat, South Al Batinah, North Al Sharqiya and the northern parts of Al Wusta governorates.

The sea state may rise 2-3 metres along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts, and there may be reduced horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.

The Civil Aviation Authority urges caution and warns ships not to sail during the alert period.
