Tropical Storm Edouard | US Gulf Coast port operations

Update: September 2, 2026 PM - Tropical Storm Edouard has weakened and moved away from the US Gulf Coast.

Port assessments in Texas and Louisiana found no significant impacts to navigation. Port conditions related to the storm have been cancelled and vessel traffic has resumed across affected areas, including Port Arthur, Sabine-Neches Waterway and Lake Charles. Houston-Galveston and Freeport are operating under normal conditions, although local weather advisories remain in effect in some areas. Our local teams continue to liaise with ports, pilots and authorities and will advise of any significant developments.

Update: September 1, 2026 PM - Marine operations disrupted by Tropical Storm Edouard

Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall near Johnson Bayou, Louisiana, on September 1, 2026, bringing heavy rainfall and strong winds to parts of the northwestern Gulf Coast.

Marine operations remain disrupted in parts of Texas and Louisiana.

Sabine/Neches Waterway and Port Arthur

  • All inbound and outbound vessel movements remain suspended.
  • Sabine Pilots expect to resume operations when conditions permit, with outbound sailings prioritized.
  • Air-draft restrictions may apply, and crosscurrents continue to be monitored.
  • Port Condition X-Ray remains in effect at Port Arthur.
  • Ocean-going vessels of 500 gross tons or more are required to submit the applicable port-condition checklist.

Lake Charles

  • Pilot operations remain suspended.
  • Cargo operations are authorized to continue.
  • Authorities do not currently anticipate escalating the port condition beyond X-Ray.
  • Pilots expect vessel movements to resume when conditions permit, subject to post-storm assessments.

Houston-Galveston

  • Bunkering operations remain suspended at Bolivar Roads Anchorage.
  • Vessel arrivals at the anchorage remain suspended.
  • Mariners should assess prevailing weather conditions before starting or continuing transit.

Freeport

  • No suspension of vessel movements has been reported.
  • Local weather and flood conditions continue to be monitored.

Update: September 1, 2026 - AM

Tropical Storm Edouard is expected to reach the northwestern US Gulf Coast on September 1, 2026, with southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana potentially affected.

Heavy rainfall, strong winds, storm surge and deteriorating marine conditions could disrupt vessel movements and port operations. Areas under warning include the coastline between Port Bolivar, Texas, and the Vermilion/Cameron Parish Line in Louisiana.

Ports and waterways that may be affected include Houston-Galveston, Beaumont, Port Arthur, Sabine Pass, the Sabine-Neches Waterway and Freeport. Restrictions may apply to vessel arrivals, bunkering and other marine operations as conditions develop.
