28 Mar 2017 / North Queensland, Australia
Severe Tropical Cyclone Debbie is expected to cross the coast near Bowen today (28 March).
Townsville: The port is still on condition RED, full closure. Townsville itself is currently experiencing minimal rain and wind, but this may change over the next 24 hours. At this stage, the intention is to re-open Townsville Port (landside) at 06:00 hours tomorrow (Wednesday 29 March), but this is still to be confirmed and will be subject to assessment of the channel and infrastructure in the morning.
Hay Point & Mackay: Both ports remain closed until further notice. We understand from the Harbour Master that no vessels are allowed to enter the Port of Abbot Point.
Dalrymple Bay & Hay Point Coal Terminals: No vessels alongside. The terminals suspended all movements until further notice. All cargo from the mine sites to port stockpiles by train was suspended yesterday evening (27 March).
Abbot Point Coal Terminal: No vessels alongside. The terminal has completed cyclone shutdown. Next vessel to arrive & berth is not due until 30 March.
Some mine sites in the region have lockdown down. Depending on movement of the Tropical Cyclone when it crosses the coast, mine sites would be affected tomorrow or Thursday.
