Transit restrictions introduced

The Stockton Pilots have been monitoring the water hyacinth on the San Joaquin for the past several months. The density has been increasing and is once again becoming a safety concern. We have also noticed the first signs of the winter "tule-fog". The combination of dense water-hyacinth floating on the water which shows on the radar as a target and makes it almost impossible to see the channel edges and the first signs of tule-fog, make for transiting the San Joaquin River during dark hours unsafe.

Therefore, due to the high concentration of water-hyacinth and the beginning of the fog on the San Joaquin River and the Stockton Deep Water Ship Channel, the Stockton Commissioned Pilots are restricting movements on the San Joaquin to daylight only (DLO) up-river from New York Point.
This will begin at 0600 on Thursday, October 22, 2015.

The Pilots will continue to monitor the situation on the San Joaquin River and when the conditions change, we will inform you about the changes in these restrictions.
