Temporary replacement of beacon No.5 in Corio Channel

Effective from October 22, 2017 to beginning December, 2017, in view of planned Channel Safety Improvement Works during November 2017 Beacon No.5 in Corio Channel, Geelong will be removed temporarily and replaced by a large 3 meter diameter steel starboard hand buoy. This buoy will have the same light characteristics as Beacon No 5 (F.Iso.G.3s) and positioned a few meters North of the present beacon’s position.

Due to operational reasons the buoy replacing Beacon No 5 will be installed first on Sunday, October 22, 2017 and Beacon No 5 will be removed 2 days later on Tuesday, October 24, weather permitting. Mariners are advised that on October 22 and October 23, 2017, vessels approaching Lascelles wharves and Refinery Piers in the Corio channel should leave both Beacon No.5 and Buoy No.5 to starboard during the interim period when both beacon and buoy are on station together.

The Duty Marine Controller may be contacted on VHF Channel 12 or on 03 52470300 at all times for information regarding this Notice. Noncommercial mariners and recreational craft are also reminded of their safety obligations and are requested not to navigate within 150 meters of all vessels conducting the above operations.
