Temporary establishment of acoustic monitors in Lung Kwu Tan & Tuen Mun West Waters

01 May 2024 / Hong Kong

For approximately nine months, acoustic monitors will be temporarily established on the seabed at the following locations (WGS 84 Datum):
(A) 22° 24.030’N 113° 54.335’E
(B) 22° 23.268’N 113° 54.733’E
(C) 22° 21.444’N 113° 56.920’E

The acoustic monitor is an instrument for collecting ecological survey information. It will be fixed to a metal frame structure of pyramid shape with a height of about 2 metre and a base of 1.0 metre by 1.0 metre on the seabed.

Laying of the acoustic monitors will be carried out by one work boat.

A working area of approximately 10 metres around the work boat will be established. The work boat engaged in the works will display signals as prescribed in international and local regulations.

Regular diving operations for inspecting and retrieving data from the acoustic monitors will be carried out at the above locations from time to time.

The hours of operations will be from 0700 to 1900 hours. No operations will be carried out on Sundays and public holidays.

Vessels navigating in the vicinity should proceed with caution and keep clear of the works locations at slow speed, bearing in mind there are divers working in the area.
