11 Jan 2016 / Australian West Coast
Late on Friday afternoon (8 January), AIMPE notified Svitzer that they plan to extend their industrial campaign to operations on the West Coast, with 12-hour stoppages now scheduled for Fremantle(14 January from 7am) and Kwinana(14 January from 8am).
This comes on top of their previously announced stoppages planned for:
Geelong: 12 hour stoppage from 12:00am on 12 January;
Newcastle: 12 hour stoppage from 04:00am on 12 January;
Sydney/Botany: 12 hour stoppage from 12:00pm on 12 January;
Brisbane: 12 hour stoppage from 12:00am on 13 January; and
Melbourne: 12 hour stoppage from 12:00pm on 13 January.
Svitzer’s current enterprise agreement (EA) expired on 31 December 2015. Since October 2015, Svitzer has been in negotiations with the three maritime unions for a new agreement and in-principle support was received from the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU) and the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA). The proposed new EA is a single agreement covering all three members of tug crews. AIMPE opposes this change.
As a result of this threatened industrial action, this morning (Monday 11 January) Svitzer commenced the process for its workforce to vote on the proposed agreement. The Access Period will run until Monday, 18 January. The Ballot period will run 19-22 January.
