Shore-based mooring & light services

The Suez Canal Authority (SCA) has announced that effective from May 15, 2026, mooring services will be provided from shore-based stations.

Mooring services shall be carried out from shore stations without the boarding of mooring personnel, by the Canal Mooring and Lights Company. This applies to all vessels, including naval vessels, except those subject to special arrangements or separate agreements.

The Suez Canal Authority reserves the right to require certain vessels to receive mooring services (launches or personnel), including but not limited to:

  • Towed units
  • Drilling rigs
  • Integrated units
  • Units of a special nature or subject to special arrangements
  • Any vessel for which the Suez Canal Authority deems onboard mooring services necessary. If any such unit refuses or is unable to receive mooring services, a tug shall be imposed to carry the mooring service.

Further, all vessels will be required to provide their own light projector in compliance with the Suez Canal Authority specifications as stated in the Rules of Navigation (December 2020). No electrician from the Canal Mooring and Lights Company shall board the vessel. The projector shall be inspected during the vessel’s first transit, and re-inspection conducted if remarks recorded during the previous transit.

In the absence or non-compliance of a searchlight, a fine of 500 USD shall be imposed per transit, effective from the first transit.
