Ship scrapping, dismantling or recycling in UAE

26 Aug 2021

The UAE Ministry of Energy & Infrastructure has announced that with immediate effect, it is strictly prohibited to scrap, partially dismantle or recycle any ship in the UAE without the ship owner or manager obtaining prior approval from the Federal Maritime Administration (FMA) represented by the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure. The introduction of the rule will ensure that vessel documentation can be verified and that safe and environmentally sound operations are assured.

Companies involved in ship scrapping, dismantling, and recycling operations should ensure the FMA approval is granted prior to the commencement of their operations.
