Seafarer arrivals suspended and quarantine curfews imposed

29 Oct 2020 / Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka will impose quarantine curfew in the entire Western Province (where Port of Colombo is situated) from midnight today (Thursday 29 October) until 0500 hrs Monday 2 November in an effort to contain COVID-19 spread in the country. Friday 30 October is a Full Moon Poya day (a public, bank and mercantile holiday) in Sri Lanka, and the curfew will cover the duration of the long weekend. In the meantime, the ongoing curfew in the Gampaha district and in 21 police areas in Colombo and the five police areas in Kalutara will continue until further notice.

All essential services and essential service employees will have permission to travel during the curfew period, therefore port activities and all related services continue to operate as usual with no interruptions.

Temporary Suspension of Seafarer’s Arrivals To Sri Lanka

As advised by the Presidential Secretariat, all arrivals by air including seafarers have been temporarily suspended with immediate effect, until further notice, with exceptions as listed below. This decision was taken after a new COVID-19 cluster was identified in Sri Lanka on 4 October.

Disembarkation of foreign seafarers, crew change operations of Sri Lankan crew and local/foreign Sea Marshals are allowed, subject to approval from authorities.

Further, bulk crew transfers using exclusive charter flights as per the health protocols will also be permitted, where the crew is required to transfer directly to/from port/airport. No stays at the Isolation Centre are allowed and no PCR tests can be carried out in Sri Lanka.

Other husbandry services including dry docking, lay-up, launch services, ship spares logistics, supply of bunkers/lubricants/provisions/fresh water, hull cleaning & underwater services etc can be carried out in Sri Lankan waters without interruption.
