Safe berthing restrictions

The permissible draft at Pipavav’s container berths may be increased based on tidal height during vessels’ port stay.

In its Safe memo dated 2 September 2025, APM Terminals states that the permissible draft at GP-4 may go up to 14.80m at GP-4 and 14.20m at GP-3 in fair weather, and 14.00m at GP-4 and 13.80m at GP-3 during foul weather.

Vessels may berth day and night, but subject to a tidal window occurring 1.5 hours before the next High Water or up to 45 minutes after Low water. During the ebb tide, it is possible to berth/unberth vessels at any stage of the tide, but they will be berthed post side alongside/ unberthed if alongside port side. A vessel that is starboard alongside will generally not be unberthed during the ebb tide.

Container vessels less than 230m LOA with a sound operational history can be considered for outward movements any time during the day or night. It is mandatory for all such vessels with LOA of 330m or more to have an operational ‘Laser Ranger Finder’.

RoRo vessels will only be berthed when wind speeds are 23 knots or less.
