Possible tug strike: update (12 May 2014)

Negotiations continue between Teekay Shipping and unions representing tug crews at Port Hedland in a bid to resolve the issue of enterprise negotiation agreements. The Fair Work Commission has granted permission to the Maritime Union of Australia (MUA), the Australian Maritime Officers Union (AMOU) and the Australian Institute of Marine & Power Engineers (AIMPE) to hold protected action ballot orders. The MUA ballot will conclude today (12 May) and the AMOU and AIMPE ballots on 30 May and 10 June, respectively. If industrial action is initiated, the earliest possible date for stoppages by the MUA is 16 May; by the AMOU 3 June; and by the AIMPE 14 June. News of further developments will be given as they become available. For information about operations in Australia contact GAC Australia at [email protected]
