Ports reopening after cyclone

Vessels are now berthing at North Queensland ports as Tropical Cyclone Koji has passed.

Koji will weaken after crossing the coast southeast of Townsville this morning then move west overland in coming days. It will then move northwest, south of the Gulf of Carpentaria towards the Northern Territory and potentially towards northern West Australia towards next weekend.

A Strong Wind Warning is in force for the Torres Strait and Mackay Coast.

At Townsville, the port is open since 0800 hours local time yesterday (11 January). Vessels are returning to anchorage and will be sequenced for berthing, tidal constraints, wind limits, etc. Priority may be given to vessels carrying essential commodities, if necessary.

Abbot Point remains at Red Alert and Anchorages & Pilotage Area are closed. The Terminal will inspect the coal stacks/rail situation and nominate sequence of shipping. Pilot boarding and berthing will resume once safe to do so.

The Port of Mourilyan was all clear from 0700 hours local time yesterday.

The Port of Lucinda is open since 0800 hours local time yesterday.

At Dalrymple Bay & Hay Point Coal Terminals, berthing is tentatively scheduled for today (Cape & VLC size at Dalrymple Bay and Cape size at Hay Point).
