Ports prepare for potential depression

22 May 2025 / West coast, India

Ports on the west coast of India are preparing for a potential cyclonic circulation expected to bring widespread rain and strong winds.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure system in the eastern central Arabian Sea is expected to chart northwards and deepen into a depression in the next 36 hours.

At Mormugao, the Port Authority has suspended all port operations until further notice. Vessels within port limits - at berth/anchorage - shifted to outer port limits, by the evening of 21 May.

At Mumbai and Mangalore, port operations continue as normal for now.
