Port workers’ strike

12 Apr 2024 / Gangavaram, India

Operations at Gangavaram port have been affected by the strike called by port workers from this morning (12 April).

Cargo operations at all berths were suspended from 06.30 hours local time, resulting in idling of working vessels alongside.

It is understood that the strike has been called by port workers from the fishermen community who had gave up their land and livelihood for the establishment of the port in the hope of employment and better wages. No official information about the strike has been received from the port.

Delays can be expected in the completion of vessels alongside, resulting in increased berthing delays for waiting vessels.
