Port reopened

The port of Pantoloan has re-opened for operations following the earthquakes and tsunami that hit the city of Palu, Central Sulawesi and surrounding areas occurred on Friday afternoon (28 September).

The dock structure at the port is categorised as ‘safe’ as there are only a few cracks. Although crane facilities to transport logistics boxes and containers have sustained damage, this port is operational.

Several other ports near Palu are reported not to have been damaged, including Ampana, Luwuk, Belang-Belang and Majene.

The port of Palu is reported to have suffered severe damage and it is expected to take months to be restored to functionality. Palu Airport is only open to the military for emergency evacuation and delivery of disaster-relief materials.
