Port operations resumed after Bulbul makes landfall

Operations have resumed at the ports of Hadia, Paradip and Dhamra after Cyclone Bulbul made landfall on Saturday night (9 November).

The system made landfall near South 24 Parganas district in West Bengal as a severe cyclonic storm with a maximum sustained speed of 110-120 kmph with gusts up to 135 kmph, forcing the ports and airports in India and Bangladesh to close. It then veered towards Bangladesh early on Sunday, after which it steadily lost strength.

Bulbul brought torrential rains and howling gales which left a trail of death and destruction. Some people died, many were displaced and there are reports of extensive damage to property and crops.

At Haldia, vessel movements resumed with sailing during night tide (around 1800 hours) on 10 November. Port operations are fully restored.

At Paradip, cargo operations on vessels at berth commenced around late on 9 November and vessel movements were restored by 0500 hours on 10 November.

Dhamra vessel movements were restored Sunday morning and cargo operations commenced soon afterwards.
