17 May 2019 / Canakkale Strait, Turkey
As part of construction of the 1915 Canakkale Bridge between Lapseki and Gelibolu in Canakkale which started in March 2017, a test is planned between 18 and 19 May for its tower caissons.
Subject to the timely completion and success of these tests, Dardanelles traffic will be suspended according to the below conditions and times.
From Monday 20, Canakkale Strait vessel traffic will be shifted to one-way traffic instead of both ways. This will be followed by 12 hours’ complete suspension of vessel traffic and 36 hours’ one day vessel traffic (subject to operations, this may change be extended up to 72 hours).
The tower caissons’ immersion operation is expected to continue for 4–5 days, including Friday 24 May.
