Planned industrial action

Combined Ports Unions have notified BHP of planned protected industrial action at the Port Hedland Bulk Export Terminal (PHBET), with an eight-hour work stoppage scheduled for July 16, 2026.

The action follows more than six months of enterprise agreement negotiations between BHP and the Combined Ports Unions, representing employees from the Electrical Trades Union (ETU), Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU), and the Western Mine Workers Alliance (WMWA).

If the stoppage proceeds, it is expected to involve workers across BHP's port operations and maintenance workforce at Port Hedland.

Vessels or cargoes scheduled through Port Hedland during this period are advised to closely monitor developments and maintain communication with local agents and terminal operators for any operational updates.

Negotiations are continuing. Further updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
