Permission to stay in anchorage areas for provisions

Α proposed change to the traffic regulations for the Turkish Straits has been accepted by the Government and published in the official gazette on Friday, 28 July. In accordance with the amendment to the Maritime Traffic Regulations for the Turkish Straits, vessels transiting the Turkish Straits can remain for 168 hours to obtain necessary provisions and other requirements in locations which have been designated anchorage areas (indicated in the Regulation article 23).

In such cases, they must obtain permission through their agent from the Vessel Traffic Service Centers and will remain under the surveillance of the concerned authorities without taking ‘free pratique’. Administration has the right to shorten that period if it is deemed necessary.

To ease the process as the new regulation is implemented, vessels planning to take advantage of it are urged advise as soon as possible their required time for awaiting in transit.
