Notice of work stoppages

23 Sep 2021 / Australia

Svitzer Australia has received its first notification of work stoppages from the Australian Institute of Marine and Power Engineers (AIMPE) after its protected action ballot order (PABO) was voted up by members in August 2021.

The work stoppages varying between one and four hours will affect Svitzer’s towage services in the ports of Melbourne, Port Botany, Newcastle, Brisbane, Fremantle, Kwinana, and Geraldton.

The detail of the protected industrial action involving Svitzer employees represented by AIMPE undertaking stoppages of work in Svitzer’s ports is as follows:

25 September
Brisbane: a 4-hour stoppage from 4.00 am to 8.00 am
Melbourne: a 4-hour stoppage from 12.01 am to 4.01 am

27 September
Newcastle: a 4-hour stoppage from 5.00 am to 9.00 am
Kwinana and Fremantle: 2-hour stoppage from 8.00 am to 10.00 am
Botany: 1-hour stoppage from 11.30 am to 12.30 pm
Geraldton: 1-hour stoppage from 5.00 pm to 6.00 pm

Further, a new notice of protected industrial action is planned to take place involving members of the MUA, a part of the CFMMEU, employed by Svitzer Australia as follows:

25 September
Brisbane: 4-hour stoppage commencing at 8:00 am to 12:00 pm

The extent of the protected industrial action means there will be a need to adjust schedules in the ports. Svitzer will be in contact with customers, agents and port stakeholders directly affected by the PIA.
