New waste management pricing to tackle cruise ship grey water/sewage dumping

The port of Helsinki is applying a new waste management pricing model to encourage greater usage of the available shore side grey water/sewage treatment facilities.

Cruise ships that continue to dump grey water/sewage into the fragile Baltic Sea instead of port of Helsinki shore side facilities are subject to higher waste management fees (NRT x 0,1610, min EUR 300,- max EUR 3800,-).

By bringing waste waters ashore, the normal waste management fee is applied (NRT x 0,1288, min EUR 240,- max EUR 3040,-).
