India’s Joint Committee of Trade Unions has called for a nationwide strike tomorrow (12 February).
The port workers union at Mumbai has decided to support the 24-hour strike starting from 0600 hours local time. No other ports have reported and operations at are expected to continue as normal without disruption.
Privately operated ports (Hazira, Dahej, Mundra, GMB Ports, Karaikal, Kattupali, Krishnapatnam, Gangavaram, Kakinada, Dhamra, etc.) will not be affected by this strike.
No immediate challenges or disruption is anticipated fpor liquid bulk cargo/tanker vessel operations as these commodities are handled at exclusive berths/terminals where discharge takes place through pipeline connectivity and manual intervention is minimal.
Understand conciliatory meetings between trade union representatives and government authorities are ongoing, and their outcome is expected to decide the future course of the impending strike.
