Multinational Offshore COVID-19 Treatment Centre

A Multinational Offshore COVID-19 Treatment Centre (MOCTC) will be established and positioned off the Port of Galle by 16 February 2021.

The MOCTC will accept and treat COVID-19 afflicted seafarers from any vessel passing Sri Lanka, and after full recovery they can be repatriated or released to join another vessel. Clinical management and treatment at the facility will be carried out by a government approved and accredited private hospital. The MOCTC will consist of 40 beds and 6 ICU beds for treatment initially, and capacity will be increased depending on further demand.

Treatment will only be provided on a membership basis. To become a member of the MOCTC, ships need to pay USD 1000 per month payable 3 months in advance. Further, COVID-19 infected Seafarers of those ships obtained membership will be provided at an all-inclusive rate of USD 350 per day per seafarer. A certificate will be issued for the seafarer upon full recovery. Disinfection of the parent vessel is also included for the membership.

The medical management of the treatment centre will be carried out by a leading Pvt. Hospital in Sri Lanka, with Australian Council of Health Care Standards International (ACHSI) accreditation. The hospital is also certified with Integrated Management System (IMS) consisting of (ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001: 2015, ISO 45001:2018, ISO 15189:2012 & SLS 1672:2020).
