24 May 2016 / Houston TX, USA
As in 2015, a large population of young menhaden fish is expected in the Gulf of Mexico and in the Houston Ship Channel in 2016. These fish clog sea chest strainers and restrict the flow of sea water cooling.
The Lone Star Harbor Safety Committee is conducting a voluntary and anonymous questionnaire in its continuing efforts to develop guidance and best practices to help vessels making port calls in the western US Gulf during Menhaden Season (typically April through October) reduce or avoid overheating issues.
Houston Pilots boarding vessels have been requested to assist you in the completion and submission of the questionnaire, which should take less than 10 minutes to complete. The completed questionnaire should be given to the Pilot before he or she departs the vessel. Alternatively, the completed questionnaire may be sent by email to [email protected]
