Measures for disembarking personnel

22 Jun 2020 / Sri Lanka

The Sri Lankan Government has imposed the below measures for disembarking personnel, including local/foreign seafarers and sea marshals, from vessels.

a) A PCR test must be taken inside port or on board the vessel upon readiness to disembark
- If the vessel is berthing: PCR test can be arranged at port premises or on board vessel (latter option preferred)
- Dry docking vessels: All crew to take PCR tests before commencing any work interacting with dockyard staff
- Offshore disembarkations: PCR to be done once the launch reaches the pier

b) Immediately after the sample is drawn, the personnel will be transferred to an isolation center (for foreign crew), quarantine center (Sri Lankan crew) or safe house (sea marshals) to await PCR test results.

c) Proceed for next steps accordingly as per the PCR test results.

The government has instructed all exclusive/ consolidated charter flights carrying foreign seafarers to land at Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport (MRIA), in order to minimise congestion at Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA). Seafarer flights will be only be allowed to land at BIA if there are direct transit passengers, who will take a connecting flight from BIA to another destination without coming out of the BIA.
