'Low’ Crosses East Coast; Heavy Rains Lash Odisha

Under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area, Odisha received very heavy rains and thunderstorms. Downpour since Wednesday morning has left multiple low-lying areas inundated. The state capital was swept with intense rains during the daytime as well recording 100 mm rainfall on Wednesday.

The heaviest downpour was seen in Nellore and Prakasam districts, with Indukurpet in Nellore receiving the heaviest rainfall of 103.75 mm.

Forecasts indicate that the rain triggered by a ‘well-marked low pressure’ is expected to gradually move northeastward over the Bay of Bengal, continuing to lash Odisha and neighboring region for the next 24 hours.

The MeT department has issued a red alert for parts of the state for tomorrow and orange and yellow alert for the next two days.
