Lashing Awareness at (APM Terminals) Khalifa Bin Salman Port (KBSP)

Lashing of cargo onboard vessels is a hazard prone activity and hence you are requested to take note of the following do’s and don’t’s while undertaking this activity and also ensure that the same is communicated to all vessels and crew that call KBSP, for their compliance.

  1. Any hazardous conditions observed onboard the vessels will be communicated to the vessel command during the vessel safety inspection conducted prior to the commencement of cargo operations. Please take note of any adverse comments in the inspection report and take immediate corrective action.
  2. All ladders onboard the vessel should be equipped with adequate grip-aids.
  3. The vessel should ensure adequate lightening ( 50 Lux ) in all operation areas. Alternatively portable lightening should be provided to lashers in order to ensure a safe working environment.
  4. All manholes should be equipped with safety bars/chains, to avoid prevent the risk of falling when the manholes are in use.
  5. The vessel crew should ensure that the lashing tools and equipment are stored in proper place when coming to the port.
  6. The vessel crew should ensure that the working areas are always clean from oil and soot before the commencement of work to avoid slip & trip hazards.
  7. The vessel crew should ensure that removable guardrails are in place after opening of the hatch covers.
  8. Avoid receiving over tightened turnbuckles.
  9. Communication shall to be established with terminal shift management on below numbers

  10. Ensure that all reefer wires are in the designated place before discharge operation.
  11. Mandatory maintenance of lashing tools & gear is expected to avoid any delay/unsafe condition during operations. Any defective tools shall be replaced at the earliest.
  12. Assign a special box for jammed twist locks is needed to keep the defect twist lock during lashing operation.
