The Sri Lankan Department of Immigration & Emigration has issue a reminder about the procedures for clearing ship crew members at ports of entry to Sri Lanka.
The following procedures must be complied with prior to granting landing endorsement to ship crew members:
Ship crew members possessing Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) or Seaman Book should be granted landing endorsements upon executing appropriate bond with the Sri Lankan government through the local ship agent.
Crew members like technicians, engineers, surveyors, etc. who do not old CDC/Seaman Book have to enter the necessary bond with the Sri Lankan government through the local ship agent, and the agent has to provide a guarantee letter confirming that the said crew are sailing with the particular ship.
Crew members who intend to visit Sri Lanka (by air) for a short period and returning by aircraft to participate in conferences, business meetings, short term training (less than a month), trouble shooting or fixing machinery/equipment related to operations should arrive with a Business ETA by paying the appropriate processing fee. If visiting for private reasons, they must obtain the appropriate ETA to suit the purpose.
Vessels are urged to adhere to the above instructions and if clarification is required contact the Assistant/Deputy Controller (on duty at port of entry) or to call Assistant Controller (Ports & Investigation).
