Island-wide curfew extended

22 Mar 2020 / Sri Lanka

There has been an extension on the previously declared island-wide curfew in Sri Lanka.

The curfew imposed in the areas surrounding Colombo Port (Colombo, Gampaha and Puttalam Districts) has been extended until 6.00am on Tuesday 24 March, after which it will be re-imposed at 2.00pm on the same day.

The curfew in the rest of the country, including the ports of Galle, Hambantota and Trincomalee, will be lifted at 6.00am tomorrow (Monday 23 March) and re-imposed at 2.00pm the same day. The curfew in these areas will be in force until 6.00am on 24 March.

Notice regarding the imposing of further curfew in all districts will be notified later.

The Government has declared 20-27 March as “work from home” for the workers in public and private sector, in order to minimize the risk of COVID-19 in the country. The authorities have ensured continuous supply of essential services during this period.
