Indefinite transport vehicle strike announced

Lorry owners in Kakinada and Visakhapatnam will begin an indefinite strike from midnight tomorrow (Tuesday, 9 December).

Truck operators engaged in cargo movements inside the port premises/wharf area are understood to not be part of the proposed strike. Therefore, discharge & loading operations from vessels are very unlikely to be affected, and only movement of cargo from the Port Stack yard to outside and export cargo arrivals will be disrupted.

According to the Circular issued by the Cocanada Chamber of Commerce today (8 December), the Lorry Owners Association, Kakinada, will only provide lorries for wagon unloading. If the strike continues, they may also stop supplying lorries for rake movements.

Trucks moving inside Kakinada Seaports Limited port premises will continue to ply, as normal. The strike will affect only trucks operating outside port limits. It is mainly bagged cargoes such as bagged sugar that are likely to be affected.

At Kakinada Anchorage Port, all operations (loading of bagged rice) will be affected. Only wagon loading will be allowed and other movements outside will be impacted.
