Typhoon Opong has made landfall in Visayas and is continuing to accelerate as it moves west-northwestwards. It made a second landfall over Mansalay, Oriental Mindoro and will emerge over the Mindoro Strait this afternoon and head towards the West Philippine Sea.
Voyages of vessels with heading for or transiting through the Luzon and Visayas regions, as well as parts of Upper Mindao are suspended, except for those seeking shelter.
Calaca Seaport has instructed vessels berthed at CISC Terminals to vacate the port and proceed to the designated safe sheltering areas. Docking of incoming vessels has been suspended.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) Tropical Cyclone Bulletin #18 at 2pm today (26 September) warns of heavy rainfall and strong winds due to the Southwest Monsoon enhanced by Opong. A Gale Warning is in effect over the seaboards of Southern Luzon and Visayas and the western seaboard of Central Luzon.
The outlook for the next 24 hours is for very rough, high, or very high conditions in the seaboards of: Oriental Mindoro and Occidental Mindoro (up to 9 metres); Batangas, Quezon, Romblon and Marinduque (up to 6 metres); Zambales, Bicol Region, Calamian Islands, Cuyo Islands, Western Visayas, Negros Occidental, Bantayan Islands, Camotes Islands, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, Samar, Biliran western coasts of Leyte; the northern seaboard of Cebu.
Sea travel is risky for all types or tonnage of vessels. All mariners must remain in port or, if underway, seek shelter or safe harbor until winds and waves subside.
On the track forecast, Opong is expected to exit the Philippines area tomorrow (27 September) afternoon, and may re-intensify within the next 12 hours as it moves over the West Philippine Sea.
GAC is fully operational and committed to providing continued support in the Philippines.
