Impact of national strike (update - 14 October)

The Maritime Rescue and Coordination Centre has issued a Maritime Safety Information message advising of heavy traffic in and around the Westhinder and Oostdyck anchorage areas, due to today’s industrial action in Belgium.

Increased vigilance is advised, and vessels are recommended to avoid the area.

Shipping traffic to/from Antwerp – including inland navigation – is completely suspended due to understaffing at the Zandvliet Traffic Control Centre until 07.30 hours local time tomorrow (15 October).

The Port of Antwerp-Bruges towage service is operating at 50% capacity. Vessel Traffic Services and passage planning remain fully operational. All locks and bridges are functioning normally, except for the Kallo Lock and the Zandvliet Lock, which are temporarily out of service.

There are currently 83 vessels registered as arriving and 49 departing Antwerp.

Navigation to/from the port of Zeebrugge is currently possible. However, the pilotage service is not operational; and SWATH tender services are suspended until Wednesday, 15 October at 09:30. The Zeebrugge Traffic Control Center remains fully operational, but large LNG traffic remains suspended. Inbound/outbound movements, shifts and use of the locks are possible for exempted traffic.

There are currently 7 arriving registered as arriving and 4 departing Zeebrugge.

9 vessels are also registered as arriving and 5 departing Ghent.
