Hurricane Condition Yankee set at ports

Based on the current predicted track of Hurricane Matthew, effective 6.00pm on October 4, 2016, the Captain of the Port (COTP) Jacksonville will set Hurricane Condition YANKEE (sustained gale force winds due to Tropical Cyclone activity are predicted within 24 hours) in the ports of Canaveral, Jacksonville and Fernandina.

At Condition YANKEE, no vessel over 500 gross tons may enter the port without the permission of the COTP. Vessels requesting to enter port must submit a written request to the [email protected] and [email protected] email addresses.

All Masters of vessels over 500 gross tones, including tugs and barges, should be making preparations to depart the port at least four hours prior to the predicted onset of gale force winds.

All vessels that intend to remain in port must have an approved Remain in Port Request. If you have submitted a Remain in Port Request to the COTP and have not received approval, you should contact the Remain in Port Liaison Officer. All vessel owners and operators with pre-approved lay-up plans shall notify Sector Jacksonville immediately if the vessel intends to remain in port during the storm.

  • For Remain in Port Requests for the Port of Canaveral, please send requests to the Remain in Port Liaison Officer (RIPLO) at [email protected]. If you have any questions regarding remain in port requests please contact MST2 Rogers at (321) 784-6780.

On October 5, 2016, conference calls will be held at 1300 for maritime interests in the Port Canaveral area and at 1330 for those in Jacksonville and Fernandina.
