Houston Channel closed due to vessel fire

The West Gulf Maritime Association has advised that the Houston Ship Channel has been shut to all traffic over a stretch of nearly a mile from the Cargill Facility up to the Cemex Docks following a fire on the Panama-flagged Aframax River late yesterday (Monday) that led to a bunker oil spill.

The incident occurred at the Intercontinental Terminals Company at Buffalo Bayou, Texas. A security zone was established in the channel at 12:25 am local time (05:25 GMT) while investigations are carried out. The reopening of the channel will depend on the results of inspections.
