Holiday declared after cyclone strikes

The Omani Government declared a three-day holiday (27, 28 & 29 May) for government and private sector organisations in Salalah after Cyclone ‘Mekunu’ hit the area late on Friday night (25 May).

High water levels, flash floods and debris caused damages throughout the area and disrupted the transportation system. About 80% of roads are now reported to have been cleared for traffic, but civilians are being urged to stay at home to keep roads clear for emergency services and technical response teams.

Electricity is partly cut off in the city and internet service is also disrupted. GAC Salalah staff are working from home with available facilities.
