Oman’s Civil Aviation Authority has issued a warning of expected heavy thunderstorms and rainfall.

Heavy thunderstorms accompanied with strong downdraft winds and hail over the governorate of Musandam (50-150 mm) are forecast. Rainfall of 30-120mm is expected over Al Buraimi, Al Dhahira, North Al Batinayh and Al Dakhylia governorates, as well as continuous varied intensity rain over the governorates of Muscat, South Al Batinah, South Al Sharqiya and North Al Sharqiya and the northern parts of Al Wusta governorates causing flashfloods. There are chances of isolated rain over Dhofar governorate.

The sea state may rise along Musandam governorate and Oman Sea coasts, and there may be reduced horizontal visibility during thunderstorms.

The Civil Aviation Authority urges caution and warns ships not to sail during the alert period (10.00 on 15 April to 10.00 on 16 April). People should not cross wadis and avoid low lying areas.
