GNSS interference & requirements for fully operational navigational equipment

Electronic interference is currently affecting Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) in the Fujairah area.

All vessels calling at the ports of Fujairah and Dibba must therefore ensure that critical navigational equipment - including but not limited to radars, speed log, gyro compass, magnetic compass, steering systems and associated bridge equipment - is fully operational and tested prior to arrival.

In its Notice To Mariners No.373 dated May 15, 2026, the Port of Fujairah emphasises the proper functioning of non-GNSS dependent speed logs (doppler or electromagnetic speed logs) which are essential for safe pilotage and berthing operations. Vessels not fitted with a fully operational speed log, or with defective/unreliable speed log indications, will not be permitted to berth or conduct port movements until the deficiency has been rectified to the satisfaction of the Port Authority.

Masters must accurately declare any navigational equipment defects prior to arrival.

If a pilot identifies any undeclared malfunction or deficiency during a vessel call or maneuvering, operations will be suspended immediately until corrective actions are completed. Any resulting delays, additional pilotage, tug assistance or other marine service charges shall be for the vessel’s account.
