08 Oct 2015 / Panama Canal, Panama
The Panama Canal continues to experience an increase in vessel backlog, and despite measures taken, the number of vessels awaiting transit has not been reduced to acceptable levels.
In response to a growing concern regarding the extended waiting time being experience, Condition 1.a will be implemented effective October 12, 2015.
Applications for reserved transits under the above-mentioned condition will be received beginning 0900 hours, October 9, 2015. The booking slot available through the Auction Process, as well as the slots available for vessels less than 300 feet in length, will continue to be offered.
The Just-In-Time (JIT) transit service will remain at one (1) for each direction, as oublished in Advisory to Shipping A-31-2015.
Condition 1.a will remain in effect until the backlog returns to normal levels.
